7 Unlockable Characters That Weren’t Worth the Effort

We’re not averse to putting in loads of effort for a worthwhile result, but we are dead against working our socks off for an insultingly shabby reward - as in the case of these unlockable game characters who were so much more hassle than they were worth. Take Bayonetta's unlockable playable character Little King Zero, for instance. Bayonetta is already a pretty challenging game, so imagine how much more 'fun' you could be having if you were playing as a character who was reduced to one hit point by every single attack in the game, regardless of how weak it was. That’s the situation you find yourself if you play Bayonetta as Zero, King of Little Devils, a demon who looks like Santa’s skeleton trying to fight its way out of a garbage bag and costs you five million halos or the completion of the game's diamond-hard lost chapter Angel Slayer. Or take Tofu from Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil 2 was full of great characters, from Leon Kennedy to Claire Redfield, to the unimaginably creepy police chief Brian Irons, to Sherry, the little girl who wouldn’t stop running off. Get six A ranks in a row in the main game, however, and you unlock a new character, called Tofu. Tofu is, as his name suggests, a six foot block of tofu with hands, whose campaign involved running around the sewers brandishing a knife. Still a better character than Steve Burnside from Resident Evil: Code Veronica though. Eff that guy. --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. The 7 Harshest Continue Screens in Arcade Game History

The whole point of arcade machines is to get you to insert more coins, which is why they often employ every trick in the book to get you to keep playing. The more horrible these games' continue screens were, the more likely you were to pay up, which is why some of these just have to be seen to be believed. 7 Times You Would Have Been Rescued But Your Rescue Helicopter Crashed

Helicopters in games crash as often as Windows Vista trying to sync iTunes because if you could just chopper your way out of trouble without crashing, most videogames would be eight minutes long. Think of all the times you tried to helicopter your problems away, only you crashed because of course you did, and subscribe: http://www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox Consider Left 4 Dead’s first campaign No Mercy, in which you slog your way to the rooftop of a zombified hospital, hail the News Chopper 5 rescue copter, fend off the undead until it arrives, then do an action-hero leap to board it. What happens next, completely off-screen, is the pilot turns into a zombie, Zoey shoots him, and because none of the four survivors can fly a helicopter, they made an emergency landing that is 90 emergency and 10 percent landing. Extra kudos to the unnamed helicopter pilot from 2013’s Tomb Raider, for managing to hold a helicopter steady enough for Lara Croft to jump into it from an exploding building during a supernaturally violent storm. Sympathies, at the same time, for his family, on account of how that pilot gets killed when Lara forces him to attempt a doomed landing on the island of Yamatai to rescue her buddies. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, meanwhile, hates helicopters so much we suspect helicopters murdered its parents. How else to explain the non-stop copter crash fest that is the Modern Warfare oeuvre? --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. 7 Heroes Who Lived Long Enough to Become the Villain

They say you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. The second option is popular with game protagonists, judging by how we're always battling our former heroes in subsequent games we played as in previous games. Enjoy these ultimate betrayals and subscribe for a video like this every Thursday, why not? Take Dead Rising 2 follow-up Dead Rising 2: Off the Record, for instance, which reworks Dead Rising 2 with Frank West of Dead Rising 1 fame as the hero instead of motocross champ Chuck Greene. Dead Rising 2: Off the Record envisages how Chuck would deal with the Dead Rising 2 game over you got if you failed to get Katey her anti-zombifyng meds in time. Spoiler alert: the answer is “not well”. Chuck is now a wild-eyed maniac in desperate need of both a haircut and to stop carrying around a creepy doll version of his dead daughter, and not in that order. Naturally, you end up having to battle fallen protagonist Chuck - no small ask, since he’s equipped with his trademark slicycle, a motocross bike with twin chainsaws protruding from the handlebars that's much less fun when you're not the one in the driving seat. #outsidexbox #villains #7things --- Outside Xbox brings you daily videos about videogames, especially Xbox One games and Xbox 360 games. Side scrolling beat-’em-ups need to have loads of enemies in them, otherwise they’d be 10 minutes long. But you can’t just recolour everyone or make the player fight evil clones of themselves forever. That’s how we ended up with bizarre boss designs that are surely the result of a late night, a looming deadline and way, way too many cups of coffee. Consider these, our eight favourites.
